Be Still My Soul (SAB & piano)

Arrangement for SAB choir and piano.  Uses: General, All Saints' Day, Lent; loss, funerals, encouragement.  Tune: FINLANDIA.  Intermediate level.  8 pages.

First and optional second verse alternate between unison and parts.  Harmonic dissonance paints the text "darkness in the vale of tears" in the third verse, then moves to more consonance declaring powerfully "from His own fullness all He takes away."  Baritones sing the melody while sopranos and altos harmonize starting the fourth verse, culminating to proclaim "be still my soul" knowing tears will pass, then ending softly to portray a still, peaceful soul.
